Employee Engagement

A big deal or just another trendy concept?  According to a report published by The Conference Board*, “Employee Engagement is a serious organizational concern”.  The report, Employee Engagement, A Review of Current Research and Its Implications, states that twelve major studies on employee engagement had been published since 2002 by top research firms such as Gallup, Towers Perrin, Blessing White, and the Corporate Leadership Council and while differences varied from study to study, they determined that highly engaged employees outperform their disengaged counterparts by a whopping 20–28 percentage points and that there is clear and mounting evidence that high levels of employee engagement keenly correlates to individual, group and corporate performance in areas such as retention, turnover, productivity, customer service and loyalty.  That’s the good news.  The bad news, though the studies varied, it was determined that only 27% of a total workforce is engaged.  The rest are disengaged or actively disengaged. The outcome?  Well, what would be the impact on your company if only 27% of your employees showed up everyday?
