As the story was told, during one of the battles of the Civil War, President Lincoln gave the attack orders to the Colonel who was in charge. Upon receiving the orders, the Colonel noticed it wasn’t signed. Being curious and concerned, the Colonel asked the President why it wasn’t signed. President Lincoln replied, “If the mission fails, I will sign it. If it is successful, you will sign it.” This is leadership!
Leadership is an act not a title. It is essential that those entrusted with the direction, growth and the sustainability of an organization understand, embrace and demonstrate leadership actions consistently and continuously.
